Ancho Reyes

Ancho Reyes is a chili liqueur inspired by a 1920s recipe from Puebla, Mexico, where ancho chiles (dried poblano peppers) have long been used in local cuisine and traditional remedies. The brand was revived in the 2010s to honor this culinary heritage, creating a spirit that bridges the flavors of Mexican cooking with the cocktail world. Each chile is sun-dried, hand-selected, and macerated in cane spirit, allowing the earthy heat and complex fruitiness of the peppers to infuse deeply. There are two versions: the original Ancho Reyes (using ancho chiles) and Ancho Reyes Verde (made with fire-roasted green poblanos), each offering its own balance of smoke, fruit, and spice.

Tasting Notes
The classic Ancho Reyes opens with aromas of dried red chile, cinnamon, and cacao. On the palate, smoky, earthy heat is layered with dark fruit, caramel, and baking spice, building warmth without overwhelming fire. The texture is rich and slightly viscous, leading into a lingering finish of spice, cocoa, and smoldering chile.

Serving Suggestion
Mix into margaritas or palomas for a spicy kick, stir into a Negroni for warmth, or enjoy neat to appreciate its depth of chile character.
